In the hope of doing more spinning in the next year, my holiday wishlist includes a digital scale and a McMorran balance. DH wants to know what I need in a scale: range (up to 2 lbs? 5 lbs?), degree of accuracy, etc. Do any of you spinners have thoughts on this? Any models to recommend?
Also, a local knitting friend told me not to buy the McMorran balance but to get a very accurate scale instead, and then use that to extrapolate yardage based on a small piece of yarn. What do you all say? If you don't use a McMorran balance, how do you estimate your yardage?
